Tölta tests - saddle pad in sheep's wool from Kidka

I have now tested Kidka's sheepskin saddle pad on one of the horses in our stable.
It is knitted in 4 layers, which gives it a nice drape that distributes pressure and protects against chafing. The elasticity and weight of the knitted material means that it fits well on the horse's back. And the roughness of the wool provides friction that prevents the saddle and pad from slipping.
Wool's ability to warm, breathe and let moisture through is superb in a sheep's wool saddle pad. The coat under the saddle is smooth and dry, even after an intensive riding session.
It feels like the gel pad will end up far in the closet once you've tried a wool pad!

The amazing properties of Icelandic wool

They keep the horse warm when it is cold and dry when the horse or the weather is wet.

Icelandic wool is spun with two different fibers – the soft, shorter undercoat and the longer, coarser outer coat. This special composition creates a yarn that is extra warm, while also being breathable and moisture-wicking. Icelandic wool yarn is also considered soft and therefore more pleasant to wear against the body. The wool is washed, brushed and steamed before knitting, which gives it a soft and warm texture.

The wool is also covered in a fat, lanolin, which has antibacterial properties. This makes the material particularly suitable for sweat blankets, saddle blankets and saddle pads, which all sit closest to the horse's body and coat. It is so easy to keep fresh.

Easy to keep clean and fresh

Wool as a natural fiber has the ability to self-clean and therefore does not pick up dirt or dust. Therefore, there is usually no need to wash wool products. Regular airing, which refreshes and regenerates the fibers, is very important.

If the wool product needs to be cleaned, it is possible to wash it in water by hand, unless otherwise stated. Kidka's wool products can be machine washed on a 30C wool program.

Remember to only use products intended for the care of wool, preferably with the addition of lanolin, which is a natural animal wax that can be used when cleaning sheep's wool.

Dry the blanket/quilt in a flat horizontal position and press it gently with a towel. Wool rugs/blankets/quilts should not be wrung out or hung vertically as wet fibers are definitely more susceptible to stretching. If your blanket has become sweaty, dry it flat instead of hanging it.
