Photographer Gigja Einarsdóttir's beautiful images of Icelandic horses have garnered much attention, both in Iceland and internationally. Her beautiful images capture the strength, grace, and gentle nature of the horses in a unique way.

Gigja has lived with horses her whole life. She worked as a horse trainer for a number of years, before changing careers and starting to study photography.

"I suppose being a horse trainer helps. But the job also requires a lot of patience. I often sit out in the fields, preferably still, for hours on end, waiting for the perfect moment to appear," says Gigja, who regularly goes on horseback hikes and takes her expressive photos that capture her appreciation worldwide.

She also experiences a fantastic communication with the horses, and that they radiate a uniquely magical energy, something that she manages to capture well in her images.

In addition to her freelance work, she works as a journalist and photographer for Ei∂faxi, Iceland’s leading horse magazine. Gigja’s images have appeared on T-shirts from H&M, bedding and as canvases at the American retail chain Target, among other things. She has published a book, Horses of Iceland, and is currently working on her second book.

Her work is part of the interior design at the Icelandic hotel The ION Luxury Adventure Hotel.
